✨ Curl Breakdown by Type

3A – Loose Curls

  • Look & Feel: Big, defined, springy S-shaped curls. Often shiny but can frizz at the roots.

  • Challenges: Frizz control, flatness at the crown, dryness at ends.

  • Tips: Use lightweight curl creams and gels for definition without weighing hair down.

  • Natural Solutions: Aloe vera, flaxseed gel, jojoba oil.

  • DSB Match: Citrus & Silk Curl Defining Cream for bounce and frizz-free shine.

3B – Springy Ringlets

  • Look & Feel: Medium spirals with more density. Curls are tighter than 3A and full of body.

  • Challenges: Shrinkage, dryness, and tangles.

  • Tips: Hydrate deeply and use leave-ins that fight frizz. Finger detangling works best.

  • Natural Solutions: Shea butter, hibiscus extract, coconut milk.

  • DSB Match: Hydrating Hibiscus Leave-In Mist to keep curls juicy and manageable.

3C – Tight Corkscrews

  • Look & Feel: Corkscrew curls, thick strands, and lots of density.

  • Challenges: Major shrinkage, dryness, and single-strand knots.

  • Tips: Moisturize, seal with oil, and protective style often.

  • Natural Solutions: Castor oil, honey, marshmallow root.

  • DSB Match: Twist & Treat Moisture Butter for lasting hydration and curl definition.

4A – Defined Coils

  • Look & Feel: Tight S-pattern coils that retain moisture better than 4B/4C.

  • Challenges: Breakage at ends, shrinkage, tangles.

  • Tips: Layer leave-in + cream + oil (LCO method). Protective styles help with retention.

  • Natural Solutions: Avocado oil, slippery elm, aloe vera juice.

  • DSB Match: Avocado Coil Cream for softness and moisture lock.

4B – Z-Pattern Coils

  • Look & Feel: Sharp angles, less defined curl, fluffy and voluminous.

  • Challenges: Fragility, dryness, shrinkage up to 70%.

  • Tips: Stretch styles (braid-outs, twist-outs), creamy butters for slip.

  • Natural Solutions: Mango butter, baobab oil, nettle leaf.

  • DSB Match: Mango Butter Twist Soufflé for softness + stretch.

4C – Tightest Coils

  • Look & Feel: Very tight, zigzag coils with little visible definition. Soft, cottony texture.

  • Challenges: Extreme shrinkage (up to 80%), fragile ends, tangling.

  • Tips: Gentle handling, protective styles, consistent moisture + sealing oils.

  • Natural Solutions: Shea butter, black castor oil, fenugreek.

  • DSB Match: Castor & Shea Moisture Balm for strength and nourishment.
